Wax Jackets Care Guide

Dubarry's wax jackets are made from authentic Dry and Silkwax Finish wax cotton fabrics that are designed to age well with wear. Cracks or breaks will appear in the fabric and are a natural process as your garment starts its journey. It will develop a unique patina overtime and will become as individual as the wearer. The movement of the fabric when worn or handled will cause the ‘harder’ wax to flex and create the unique marks you will see on the fabric. An increase in temperature will soften the wax and those marks will disappear. Best methods are the low heat from a hairdryer or placing it inside-out over a radiator for a few minutes. Wax Cotton Jackets are outdoor garments and you are advised to avoid wearing indoors and in motor vehicles with lighter colour leathers and other fabrics as the wax finish can often transfer/rub off.

Rewaxing your wax jacket rejuvenates the fabric and preserves its water repellent status. Find out how to re-wax your wax jacket below

Step 1: Cleaning your wax jacket

Ensure the material surface is clean and dry before applying our Waxed Cotton dressing.

It is recommended to re-wax your jacket in a warm room.

Step 2: Applying the Waxed Cotton Dressing

Work the Waxed Cotton Dressing into the material using a clean cloth or sponge.

It is recommended to start at the back of the wax jacket before moving on to the front.

Take care not to over apply the Waxed Cotton Dressing.

Remember to apply the dressing to the seams of the jacket and areas prone to abrasion

Step 3: After application

After applying the Waxed Cotton Dressing, apply heat using a hairdryer to allow the wax to fully absorb into the jacket. Alternatively it can be left hanging near or on a radiator.

Once the wax has been absorbed, wipe off any excess dressing with a clean cloth
